Planking: 5 Things Men Should Know

What You Need To Know
The term "planking" was coined in Australia, but the sport itself originates elsewhere.
At least one person has died from planking in Australia.
Eight Woolworths employees were sacked in May, 2011 for planking on the job.

1 - Planking Was Not An Australian Invention
Even though we Aussies coined the term "planking" the sport itself actually has its origins in the less inventively phrased "lying down game", which began in Britain in 1997. The game is also known as "playing dead" in South Korea, "on one’s belly" in France and "extreme lying down" in parts of Australasia. All of these variations involve the same, basic premise -- the act of lying face down on one's stomach, head straight, arms straight, head down, in weird locations while someone photographs you, later to be uploaded to Facebook.

2 - It's Dangerous

3- Celebrities Are Getting In On The Act
Kerry-Anne Kennerly was filmed planking on the couch of her morning show set. Ditto, Footy Show joker Sam Newman, who was filmed planking on his 40th-floor balcony in Port Melbourne, mere hours before the bizarre sport claimed its first victim, Acton Beale. Even before all the fuss began, Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles winger David "Wolfman" Williams "planked" as a form of try celebration in a March, 2011 game against the Newcastle Knights.

4 - It Could Cost You Your Job

5- Planking Could Get You Laid... Maybe.
